How do I know what to wear and bring to the club?
Wear comfortable, breathable fabrics such as cotton. Many members prefer cotton shorts or pants, and a cotton t-shirt. There are also many breathable fabrics designed specifically for exercise (including our GoodLife adidas workout wear, available to try on at the club, and for purchase online at shopgoodlife.ca). Wear comfortable running or cross-training shoes with good support. We recommend that you always bring a lock, water bottle, sweat towel and headphones. Our change rooms are fully equipped so you're more than welcome to bring a change of clothes and products to get ready right at the club. Towel service is available as an add-on service at many of our clubs.
Isn't joining a club expensive?
This is a myth. Actually, our memberships work out to be about the same price as a cup of coffee a day. A Membership Coordinator will be happy to speak with you to discuss our different membership options.
What if I don't have time to attend a gym?
Our Fit Fix Circuit is perfect for members with very busy schedules. With just three 30-minute sessions a week, you will be able to take care of your cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, stress reduction, weight control and overall general health. Most clubs are open seven days a week to fit into your schedule. Some clubs are even open 24 hours a day. We also offer child-minding (known as JUMP!) programming to help you achieve your goals. Inquire with your club for details.
I've never attended a GROUP EXercise class. How do I know which one to try?
Just ask an Associate and they'll be more than happy to recommend a class for you based on your fitness goals, or click here for class descriptions and information on getting started. BodyPump, BodyFlow and Newbody are great classes for members who would like to experience our GROUP EXercise classes for the first time. All of our classes are multi-level so both beginners and experienced exercisers can enjoy the same classes.
Will I be able to work out safely in a club with my health risks?
Sometimes exercise is the best medicine. If you have health risks, we recommend that you work with a Personal Trainer, who will design a custom exercise program that is specific to your personal health risks and fitness goals. They will work with you one-on-one to give you the care, attention, guidance and motivation you need to exercise safely and effectively.
Will I feel intimidated if I feel that everyone is fitter than I am?
GoodLife offers a non-judgemental atmosphere where everyone, at every fitness level is welcome. What you may not realize at first glance is that the person you see on the treadmill who looks fit may have been working very long and hard to get to their present fitness level. They may have lost 50 pounds. Instead of looking at the members around you as intimidating, look at them as inspirational.
Will I feel uncomfortable if I don't know anyone at the club?
Our Customer Service Representatives are there to serve and support you. Whether it's giving a smile and a hello, a pat on the back for coming in and working out or a daily chuckle, they enjoy getting to know our members. Many members find that our Group EXercise classes are a great way to meet other members, socialize and stay fit. When you do your first Fit Fix Orientation, which is a part of your fitness orientations, you'll have the opportunity to complete it with five or six other new members. This is another great way to meet others who are starting off just like you.
What if I'm uncomfortable exercising with men around?
GoodLife specifically caters to our female members – we have GoodLife Fitness for Women clubs where all women can feel comfortable exercising. Many of our co-ed locations also have for women sections where you can enjoy your exercise regime. Many female members who felt the same way as you before they started, found that once they actually began exercising, there was nothing to be intimidated by or uncomfortable about, because everyone was there for the same reason – health and wellness.
What if I'm much older or younger than a "typical" member?
You may not have age in common with other members, but one thing you do have in common with every single member is your interest in personal fitness, which is much more important than a number. We welcome members of all ages and all sizes.
I have lost something at a club. Do you have a lost & found?
When items are found and cannot be reunited with their owner we keep items for 30 days in our lost & found. Please ask at your club reception as soon as possible to increase the chances of finding your lost or left behind item. After 30 days items are donated or discarded. Please remember we cannot be responsible for the safe keeping of items you bring into our clubs. Please ask at your club reception if you have any concerns or questions.
